What is healing?

25 Jul

Everybody has a different interpretation of healing and what it means to them.  Lately, I have been wondering, What does healing mean?

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the term “heal” as the following:

1)     To make sound or whole

2)     To restore to health

3)     To cause an undesirable condition to be overcome

4)    To restore to original purity and integrity

With this said, healing still has many different interpretations and people can achieve healing through various methods.  The real question is what are you trying to heal from?  As a someone who has experienced a fire I am trying to heal from the fire and all the associated problems with it, like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and loss of possessions.  I have been told by another blogger that I am not healing because I am not following his “breathing track method” and listening to his advice.  Who is to say that someone is not healing?  Everyone heals at different rates and has different methods for working towards the optimum goal of health.  Just because someone doesn’t follow standard protocol of what might have worked for others doesn’t mean that they are on the wrong path.

I am curious, what other people think about this topic.  When have you felt like you are healing and when have you felt like you aren’t?  What does healing look like for you?  What are some methods that you use to heal?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
